For my first project with Akimbo I was commissioned to do a quarter page ad for the Le Mois de la Photo’s catalog (they are a major international biennale that investigates issues relating to contemporary photography). Using this bold unique font to catch the readers eye, mixed with the clever copy, this ad was very well received by the association’s art department. So well in fact they offered Akimbo the opportunity to upgrade for free to a full page in a much better position within the catalog.
Akimbo is a Toronto-based company that promotes contemporary visual art, video, new media and film locally, nationally and internationally via the internet. Established in November 1999, Akimbo has built a large and dedicated subscriber and reader base of Canadian and international visual arts professionals along with a client base of hundreds of the country’s most important galleries, museums, art institutions, and media, film and video festivals.
